Just a day after the Shakespeare Festival St. Louis held their 25th Anniversary Gala, winds of the devastating May 16, 2025, EF3 tornado swept through Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park. Now, the show must go on. On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, just weeks after the tragedy, lovers of the Bard, legions strong will once again march across the verdant green grass of the forest in the heart of St. Louis. They will come once again, as they have been for 25 years, to see the next quarter century of the Festival begin. The Festival continues through summer.

The African Gala, hosted annually by Microfinancing Partners in Africa, was much more than just a fundraising event — it’s was powerful celebration of hope, resilience, and community. On May 3, 2025, the Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis, Missouri, became the epicenter of generosity and inspiration as over 400 passionate supporters gathered to champion the transformative power of microfinance in rural Africa. St. Louis’s Central West End came alive on May 1 as art and chess lovers alike gathered to celebrate the vibrant opening of Charles Houska: Master of Play at the World Chess Hall of Fame. The event marked the launch of a joyful, immersive retrospective honoring beloved local pop artist Charles “Charlie” Houska. Guests were treated to an evening of color, creativity, and community as they explored more than 75 works spanning Houska’s 30+ year career. Master of Play is on view through April 5, 2026.

At the Delmar Maker District’s Third Degree Glass on May 16, their team was focused on getting ready for Third Friday. Within seconds of hail starting, a tornado hit their building. Everyone scrambled to get to the nearest safe place, and luckily, everyone was safe. As they emerged, the devastation was all around. A week later, although all is calm, Third Degree Glass and much of the District is still in shambles. Fortunately, inventory was spared and can be purchased at Friday Sidewalk Sales and online.

The Missouri Chamber Music Festival presents Season 15: the spirit that moves us June 9 - 20, 2025.  The four concerts of the festival take a look at the spirit behind inspiration.  What sparks them to create, express themselves and connect?  MOCM Festival artists share diverse programs relating to this theme.  Works by Olivier Messiaen, Debussy, Turina take center stage, including the world premiere performance of “Hey Mr. Drummachine Man” by composer Eric Moe for drumset and piano. Concerts take place at Wash U. and Webster University.

Soon you will notice striking new public artwork in the Delmar Maker District. The streetscape installation will be turning heads and creating dialogue on Delmar Boulevard now and into the future. The Gateway Foundation was set to unveil the artwork on May 16, but the weather had other plans when the tornado struck that day. Look for “The Rift,” featuring sculptures by Dietrich Klinge. The installation now sits in front of the Craft Alliance at 5080 Delmar Blvd, with a dedication and other activities planned at future date.

The Armstrongs purchased the house with the intent of tearing it down and rebuilding — which is exactly what they did. One of the challenges was to create a new house that looked old, like it always belonged in the confines of the well-established Ladue neighborhood. The Armstrongs commissioned Amie Corley of Amie Corley Interiors to design their new house. She did her best to recreate the feel of bright, cloudless skies and warm, balmy breezes — with a dash of Miami splash. The result was that the homeowners get to live on the beach while they live in St. Louis.

In some ways, Fashion Group International St. Louis’ Watch Party outshone the NYC extravaganza with its homegrown originality. 150 local fashionistas showed up and showed out at the Ritz Carlton in tandem with the Met Gala in NYC on May 5th. Unlike the Big Apple’s event, the St. Louis rendition had a runway fashion show featuring the best of the best. Clementine’s is Missouri’s only micro-creamery. It now has eight locations in St. Louis and will soon expand to Kansas City. To celebrate, for its 10th birthday, Clementine’s has cut a record. A limited-edition vinyl record filled with original songs about ice cream written and recorded by St. Louis artists will launch May 13. “Songs About Ice Cream: Tasty Trax on Wax” will be available for purchase at all Clementine’s locations (excluding Kirkwood) as well as clementinescreamery.com. St. Louis Public Radio’s SOLD OUT 2025 Hear the Future celebration and fundraising event Friday, May 2nd at the Four Seasons-St. Louis was both a fantastic event and an opportunity for passionate public radio supporters to come together to address the threats to public media. It raised nearly half a million dollars and was attended by 400 ardent supporters. If federal funding is cut for the coming fiscal year, STLPR will need to raise an additional half-a-million dollars annually. Donations can be made anytime at stlpr.org.

Climbing from usher almost 30 years ago, like mountain of stairs at the theater, to President and CEO of the Muny, Kwafe Coleman has risen. He now leads the charge for the world renowned St. Louis Muny Theater in Forest Park.
