Sophisticated Giving Spotlight: Jewish Community Center
Sophisticated Details: The St. Louis Jewish Community Center (The J) enriches lives, builds community, promotes inclusivity and creates meaningful Jewish experiences. For more than 140 years, The J has served the St. Louis community, regardless of faith, race, or socio-economic background. They are known for welcoming all and for their state-of-the-art fitness centers in Creve Coeur and Chesterfield, but among 80,000 people the J typically serves each year, they are even better known for delivering excellent programs, crucial social services and cultural experiences through the Early Childhood Center, Adult Day at The J program, Camp Sabra, New Jewish Theatre, and their Jewish Book and Film Festivals - the annual Film Festival begins March 6th!
Sophisticated Goals: The J lost half its membership (and millions of dollars in revenue) due to COVID. While the J’s community has praised them for their commitment to safety and service, the J continues to work to rebuild the membership lost and to create virtual and hybrid programming for those who aren’t ready to meet in person yet but desperately seek connection.
Sophisticated Connections: The J changes lives. Members, program participants, volunteers, sponsors and donors often share how The J has improved their lives. The J shapes the lives of young people through education, sports, camping, and culture. They enhance the lives of the elderly and provide support for their caretakers. They serve 2,500 meals each month to seniors who are homebound, support people of all ages with disabilities, and improve the health of the community. The J serves as the center of the Jewish community. And, they give back. The J distributes hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships each year so that families in need can access their programs and services.
