New Executive Chef at Juniper in the CWE

Juniper, the premier St. Louis destination for Low Country cuisine, announced today the promotion of Daniel Poss as Executive Chef of the restaurant on May 25. Having worked at Juniper since June 2021, as the Executive Sous Chef under Chef Mathew Daughaday, Poss in his new role will lead the kitchen in creating dishes, sourcing ingredients and giving the customers at Juniper a great overall experience.

“Matt was a vital part of the past two years as we navigated through covid and I am grateful for the time and the passion that he gave to Juniper. We will miss him, and we wish him well as he embarks on a new opportunity that will allow him to spend more time with his family,” said John Perkins, owner of Juniper. “Dan has spent the last year as Executive Sous at Juniper and it was a natural and easy transition to hand the reins to him when Matt left. Dan brings an amazing understanding and passion for Southern cuisine, its foodways and history. I am so excited to see how Daniel’s vision for Juniper will help move us forward into this year and beyond.”

Born in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in Nashville, southern food is in Poss’ blood and was shaped in his early childhood years, on his grandfather’s farm. After moving to St. Louis in 2017 and working with Rick Lewis to open Grace, Meat + Three, Poss joined Juniper to help grow their low country cuisine menu. He is proud of the approachable Southern food and hospitality that Juniper offers, all while using ingredients, true to the culinary traditions of the south from the finest purveyors including, Anson Mills and Weisenberger Mills.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to serve as Executive Chef at Juniper and to continue to work with a very skilled team who shares a commitment to Southern hospitality and desire to create the best possible food," said Daniel Poss. “Throughout Juniper’s evolution, guests have come to expect the best fried chicken in St. Louis, while also enjoying other standout dishes born from our regional traditions including oysters, blackened catfish and southern inspired desserts like vinegar pie.”
