Four African Women with Empowering Stories Visit St. Louis for the Microfinancing Partners in Africa Gala This Saturday

Helping The Impoverished Create Businesses & Become Financially Independent

This Saturday, April 13th, Microfinancing Partners in Africa will welcome four women from Africa to St. Louis. These women diligently work with our local nonprofit to transform the lives of those living in extreme poverty through income-driven initiatives. These four women, referred to as ‘Sandals on the Ground,’ can offer stories of strength, resilience, courage, and perseverance for compelling interviews or appearances.

The African Gala, hosted by Microfinancing Partners in Africa, is not just an event; it’s an annual highlight that brings together friends, donors, and community members for a night of inspiration and impact. This gala serves as a platform to shed light on the harsh realities of extreme poverty while showcasing microfinance as a viable solution in rural areas of Africa.

Each year, attendees are treated to an unforgettable evening featuring a sumptuous dinner, captivating presentations from special guests hailing from Africa, and exciting fundraising opportunities, including an exhilarating oral auction. The event has grown significantly over the past 15+ years, prompting us to expand our venue to accommodate over 400 passionate supporters.

For one night, attendees from diverse backgrounds unite with a shared goal: to champion the cause of microfinance and bolster the programs of Microfinancing Partners in Africa. It’s a testament to the power of collective action and compassion, demonstrating how small acts of generosity can catalyze significant change in communities facing economic hardship. Join us at the African Gala and be a part of this impactful journey towards empowerment and upliftment in Africa.

Please join the gala at the fabulous River City Casino Ballroom for the gala; the cocktail hour starts at 6pm; dinner is at 7.

Who is Microfinancing Partners in Africa?

Founded in 2006, it’s been part of the St. Louis nonprofit scene for nearly 20 years. The local team partners with grassroots organizations in the most desperate communities in six African countries to educate, train and fund microfinancing programs that offer women a proven path out of extreme poverty. The income-generating programs are open to all regardless of religion, race, tribe, or ethnicity.

“Microfinancing Partners in Africa gives us the ability to offer people a hand up instead of giving our people a handout,” says Sr. Mary Paul Wamatu, one of the women traveling to St. Louis. “With the handouts, they were dependent on us. A hand up helps them help themselves. They become independent, and they train their neighbors to be independent and they can support their children with the loans and their business projects.”
