Art in Bloom at SLAM

This year’s annual Art in Bloom month-long event hosted by the Saint Louis Art Museum is almost over! Don’t miss out on celebrating spring with the virtual return of the museum’s annual celebration of art and flowers. This year Art in Bloom features inspiring new ways to experience flora in art and the natural world, all from the comfort of home. All programs are presented online.

On March 3rd, Hitomi Gilliam, AIFD, hosted an inspiring live demonstration and Q&A. There was also presentation by a Museum curator and a guided-looking experience featuring a floral work in the museum’s collection, and a lively floral arranging competition among local florists.

There is still time to sign up for Art Speaks: The ‘Flowering’ of Fashion in Plant-Obsessed Europe with With Genevieve Cortinovis, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Associate Curator of Decorative Arts and Design. This talk will explore the vogue for floral textiles in 18th-century European fashion, highlighting the influence of botanical illustrations and drawing books, advances in horticulture and botany, the rise of publicly accessible gardens, and the import of textiles from Asia, especially India and China.
