St. Louis HEARD THE FUTURE Calling by Raising Nearly Half a Million $$ at STLPR Gala

by Leslie Davis, Special Events Director, St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis Public Radio’s SOLD OUT 2025 Hear the Future celebration and fundraising event Friday, May 2nd at the Four Seasons-St. Louis was both a fantastic event and an opportunity for passionate public radio supporters to come together to address the threats to public media. Interim General Manager Jess Luther spoke passionately about STLPR and its importance to the St. Louis community. Special Guests Kenny Malone, co-host of Planet Money and Wailin Wong, host of Planet Money podcast The Indicator, shared some economics about the Warm Glow of giving and presented “A Love Letter to Fred” the famous economic indicator that comes out of the St. Louis Federal Reserve.

At a time when we see the work of NPR journalists politicized and its funding under attack, it’s important to see the full picture of what public radio brings to thousands of St. Louisans every day, and over half-a-million people in our region each month. St. Louis Public Radio is here for public service, not profit. Its journalism is anchored by rigorous reporting and fact-checking, essential to informing decisions that affect our health, safety, finances, democracy, and future. Its team of award-winning journalists share local stories that matter, with editorially independent work guided by a strong code of ethics. STLPR is committed to non-partisan coverage that reflects and amplifies the voices of our community – including St. Louis nonprofits, local businesses, public servants, educators, and everyday citizens. This coverage is free and available for all to hear.

The Hear the Future event was attended by nearly 400 people who raised $350,000 to support local journalism in our region. If federal funding is cut for the coming fiscal year, STLPR will need to raise an additional half-a-million dollars annually. Donations can be made anytime at stlpr.org.
