For nearly half a century, The Women's Safe House has been that lifeline. As the oldest and largest domestic violence shelter in the St. Louis region, the organization has quietly transformed thousands of lives by offering far more than emergency shelter. It provides safety, counseling, legal advocacy, career guidance, children's services, and the resources women need to rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.
The statistics are sobering. Nearly 20 people every minute experience abuse by an intimate partner in the United States, and Missouri continues to rank among the states with the highest rates of domestic violence. Behind every statistic is a mother wondering where she and her children will sleep that night, or whether they will survive until morning.

Donors gathered onn August 14, 2026, for the organization's annual gala beneath the spectacular Big Top near Powell Hall. Guests stepped into a world of wonder while helping create something even more extraordinary: hope for women who have nowhere else to turn.
It combined breathtaking aerialists, circus performances, fine dining, and inspiring stories into one of the season's most memorable charitable evenings. Proceeds will support emergency shelter, counseling, advocacy, and life-changing services that empower survivors to rebuild their lives. Your funds will make a lasting difference for women and families in crisis while strengthening one of St. Louis' most essential nonprofit organizations.

Every dollar raised helps answer the organization's 24-hour crisis hotline, provide emergency shelter, trauma-informed counseling, case management, children's programming, and aftercare services that help survivors secure employment, permanent housing, and a future free from abuse. Because demand consistently exceeds available space, philanthropic support is essential to ensuring no woman is left without options.

“I have been a supporter of the Women’s Safe House for a number of years,” Russell Jackson said. “I am so impressed by the comprehensive nature of their service. Besides providing lodging and essential counseling to abused women, they also tutor their children whose education may have suffered from the circumstances of their prior home life.”
“The Women’s Safe House also removes barriers for women to seek help,” Jackson continued. “Women often delay leaving a situation when they know they can’t remove the family dog from danger, too. WSH has constructed a kennel, donated by Purina, that allows families to seek refuge with their pets, too.”
