Saint Louis Ballet Leaps Back on Stage

After more than a year of masked rehearsals, virtual and restricted performances, the Saint Louis Ballet will leap back onto the stage this weekend! Alice in Wonderland will open the Saint Louis Ballet’s 2021 - 2022 season. The company bursts onto the stage with energy, bold choreography and renewed appreciation for the community that sustained it during the pandemic. Adding to the atmosphere of excitement and artistry, the performance is set in front of projections by former Pixar/DreamWorks artist Luis Grane. Need more reason to attend this weekend’s season opener? Saint Louis Ballet is the region’s only professional ballet company.  Its director, Gen Horiuchi, was the former principal dancer of the New York City Ballet. Now, he leads 25 classically trained dancers who are selected in a competitive national audition and come to St. Louis from training programs and ballet companies throughout the world. The company’s repertoire includes full-length ballets such as The Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote and Swan Lake as well as contemporary work from renowned choreographers such as George Balanchine, Christopher d’Amboise, Jessica Lang, Twyla Tharp, Tom Gold, Emery LeCrone, Amy Seiwert, Nilas Martins, and Peter Martins.  In addition to a season of fully mounted productions, Saint Louis Ballet operates a ballet training program and conducts an outreach program, Pointe to Succeed, for students at select urban schools.
